My mother used to say: “I envy everyone who speaks English.” She eventually learned it and thanks to that, she and my dad emigrated from Poland to the UK. Later, she honed her language skills at work, in Morecambe. At, in, and on always confused her. Once, she asked a co-worker when to use which of these pronouns. The woman answered: “If you don’t know, always use at.”
