Miracles
Installation in urban space
2012
I carried out the work for Miracles in a backyard in the Zakaczawie district of Legnica. I borrowed the title from the neighbourhood’s nickname – “the district of miracles.” Rumour has it that it was invented by police officers back in the 1950s, because one would leave the house with money and teeth and return without them. I chose a yard that was overgrown with nettles, and most of the playground equipment had been stolen for scrap. The Miracles are the swings I built in between the remains of the playground. However, they were the kind of swings on which swinging was either impossible or difficult. One was too long and dragged on the ground, and the other was too short to sit on. Despite this, children quickly found ways to use them. The day of the opening saw a party in the neighbourhood.
