Without a Crown
Hand embroidery on cotton fabric
2020
Various dimensions
The diptych is a work created during the lockdown and features two symbols of modern-day Poland: the coat of arms of Poland and Christ on the cross, each without a crown. It would not be appropriate for anyone or anything to be associated with coronavirus – let alone the coat of arms or the figure of Christ. Following the failed attempt at postal elections, and presidential elections won by means of promoting hate speech, the works take on a new, critical tone.
The artworks are in the collection of the Mazovian Center for Contemporary Art Elektrownia.
