Tymon’s Shop
Hand embroidery on cotton fabric
2016
My son set up a shop in my studio to sell stickers he made and asked me to organise a special place to display his sticker art. I hung up a piece of fabric with little pockets on the wall and we sometimes took it out in the street. Tymek spent the money he earned on sweets.
The shop combined craft and activism, and existed in opposition to the progressive requirements of professionalisation and the formulation of precise definitions in relation to creative activity. It was a mobile form of disseminating art that cannot be fully explained in terms of economic logic. The work falls within the idea of craftsmanship combined with activism, taken from the book HR, edited by Raimundas Malašauskas, and published by Zentrum Paul Klee, Brno, 2015 http://www.sommerakademie.zpk.org/en/publications/publications/single-view/article/hr.html
