Greetings
Hand embroidery on vintage postcard
2012
10 x 15 cm
I found a collection of handwritten postcards, some from the pre-war era. It turned out that most were bought in one place but posted in another. I analysed the route the postcards had travelled and created embroideries, which serve as a record of forgetting. On the back of one postcard, we can read: “Bogdan sends warm greetings.” He sent them to Jolanta, who may have been waiting for them. With the work Greetings, I send warm greetings to all who will see it, in the hope that they will pass on this kindness.
From the Futurological Congress by Stanisław Lem:
“I opened the door to air out the room— there wasn’t a sound in the hall— […]. I shut the door, locked it, sat in the middle of the room and struggled to get a grip on myself. […] Every analytical reflex was as if submerged in thick syrup, wrapped and smothered in a porridge of self-satisfaction, all dripping with the honey of idiotic optimism; my soul seemed to sink into the sweetest of oozes, like drowning in rosebuds and chocolate icing; […] Bursting with love for my fellow man, I felt a driving need to lend a helping hand, to do good works.”
