The world was created in Olsztyn
BWA Art Gallery, Olsztyn
Curator: Sarmen Beglarian
I don’t know what the world is, or where it was created. Astronomers from the Planetarium say that life came from outer space, but ultimately, they’re not sure. When I think about it, I believe there are many worlds. The one you will see here was created in relation to the people with whom I live and work. Here are mementos, holiday photos, drawings by me and my son, lottery tickets that Tymon and I like to scratch, and candy wrappers from sweets we ate together. There are photos of my beloved grandmother, who raised me, postcards from friends and parents, and Mother’s Day cards. There are toys I collect, from which a million stories and events that happened throughout life could begin. And Tymon’s toys, which he lent me for the exhibition. This exhibition features works I’ve created over the past five years. I didn’t make them alone; many people worked on them, for which I am immensely grateful. “Creation of the World No. 3” was made in collaboration with children from Primary School No. 2 in Olsztyn. “Creation of the World No. 1” was drawn with Tymek in 2015 during a long winter when he had the flu. “Creation of the World No. 2” was created in Lublin at Galeria Labirynt, also with children. Before the entrance, there are a few embroideries. When I was little, I wanted to be a singer, and when I was older, I gave the only concert of my life. I sang the same song three times; you can listen to it here. The song is an excerpt from a book published by the Księgarnia/wystawa (Bookstore/Exhibition) from Krakow. Feel free to play with the toys at the exhibition, and move the mattresses and beanbags as you wish, to sit or lie down wherever you feel comfortable. There are candies in the drawer – enjoy!
The exhibition is accompanied by the publication “Apparently, the sun will explode” with texts by Aleksandra Lipczak.
